Household work includes far more than chores
Chore apps tend to focus on visible jobs: dishes, laundry, trash and cleaning. Those tasks matter, but the invisible administrative work of a household can be just as demanding. Someone schedules repairs, renews documents, checks a contract, orders replacement filters, contacts the landlord, prepares for a trip or keeps track of an annual service.
FamilyBoard uses a broader definition of household tasks.
Give every recurring responsibility an owner
A task can belong to a person without implying that the person must perform every physical step. “HVAC service” may mean one person is responsible for booking the technician. “Pet annual records” may mean someone makes sure documents are current. Clear ownership reduces the common situation where everyone assumes someone else is handling the task.
Keep recurring work connected to the home
When possible, link a task to the asset, subscription or responsibility it affects. A task called “review internet plan” is more useful when it points to the existing subscription record. “Replace filter” should connect to the correct appliance.
Use history for accountability, not surveillance
Completion history helps the household know what was done. It should not turn family life into a productivity scorecard. The product should avoid gamification that makes normal household contribution feel like employee monitoring.
Make the system easy to ignore when nothing is wrong
Good household software should disappear into the background. Only overdue and upcoming work needs regular attention.
Contextual CTA: Create three recurring tasks that currently live only in someone’s memory. If the task belongs to an appliance or subscription, link the two records.
