Furniture inventory should focus on items with a reason to be remembered

Not every chair needs a database record. Furniture becomes worth tracking when value, dimensions, warranty, customization, moving logistics or proof of ownership matters.

Useful information for selected pieces

Record name, room, manufacturer or retailer, purchase date, price if relevant, dimensions, material/color and a photo. For modular furniture, note configuration or part identifiers if they will matter during a move.

Dimensions are especially useful during relocation

A furniture record can prevent re-measuring every large piece when planning a new room, storage unit or moving truck.

Store care instructions only when they add value

A specialty surface or upholstered piece may have specific care guidance. Keep it with the item rather than creating generic cleaning tasks for all furniture.

Avoid over-cataloging

If the record would never be consulted again, skip it. The home inventory should remain a tool, not a museum database.
