Appliance Age Calculator

Age is useful planning context, but it is not a failure prediction.

Tool inputs

  • appliance category;
  • known purchase or installation date;
  • date confidence: exact / approximate;
  • optional current notes.

Output

Show age in years and months, the source label (“purchase date” or “installation date”) and an “approximate” badge where appropriate.

Do not automatically decode serial numbers in v1. Serial date decoding is manufacturer-specific and is easy to get wrong.

Planning guidance

The result page should suggest next steps rather than a replacement deadline:

  • review repair history;
  • confirm warranty status;
  • save dimensions/model information;
  • consider replacement planning if condition or repeated repair makes it relevant.

Limitation copy

Appliance age does not tell you how long a specific unit will continue to work. Use real condition, service history, model information and qualified advice for decisions.

CTA: Save the calculated age to the appliance record and let history—not a generic lifespan number—guide planning.
